From early banknotes of India issued by Private Banks like the Bank of Hindostan (1770-1832) to the latest colourful banknotes of India issued in the last few years, there is a lot to explore as a notaphilist or collector. Most of the old currency banknotes that were issued by the East India Company for the three presidencies namely, Bengal Presidency, Bombay Presidency and Madras Presidency featured designs only on one side. These old banknotes of India were also known as uniface notes. They were generally printed on hand-made white paper. Rare bank notes have a lot of historical significance and can be sold at auctions for an impressive amount. For example, odd denominations like 16 rupees, 250 rupees, 25 rupees, 4 rupees and 8 rupees old banknotes of India were issued for Bengal Presidency. Bombay Presidency also issued early banknotes of the denomination 5000 rupees. Today, very few of these Indian Presidency banknotes exist in the market, due to which they are priceless. However, it is also very important to maintain the condition of these old banknotes of India if you really want to sell them later at a higher amount. For that, you will definitely have to invest in good quality banknote collecting accessories. When it comes to Early Bank notes, there are a lot of characteristics that can be studied as a collector. There is a language panel which is featured in different languages depending upon the circle of issue. Then there is the denomination panel, where the denomination is printed in different styles and formats. Then there is the Promise text which assures the bearer the real value of the banknote. The central motif on some of these Old currency bank notes is very fascinating to study. You can also take a closer look at the signatures of Governors and other officials. There are certain collectors who are not really interested about the historical significance of Indian bank notes. They look for notes with interesting serial numbers and prefixes instead. There are some collectors who only search for rare bank notes as they want to invest in them and make money out of this hobby. No matter what your intensions are, only a collector will understand the thrill and joy of collecting early bank notes of India.
